Score 99/100 · Drink 2019-2045, Neal Martin, Aug 2019

The 1995 Musigny Grand Cru comes from a year when Christophe Roumier could do no wrong, and it triumphs over the 11 other vintages assessed in this vertical, blessed with a sense of completeness that none of the others possess. The 1995 is slightly lighter in color than the 1999. The nose is ethereal and beautifully defined, featuring pure red and black fruit, sous-bois , nettle and briar; an underlying mineral seam blossoms with aeration. The palate is a perfect match between fruit concentration and acidity. There is a discreet crescendo in flavor, with beguiling pure red berry fruit, undergrowth, white Chinese tea and red cherry on the pixelated finish. This is a brilliant Musigny. Tasted in November 2018 at the Roumier Musigny dinner at Épure in Hong Kong.
