Score 90/100 · Drink 2016-2026, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sep 2016

Pinot Noir takes the leading role in the 2008 Brut Paradoxe. Ample, creamy and intense, the 2008 blossoms effortlessly in the glass. The sheer weight of Pinot from Aÿ and Mareuil sur Aÿ, along with slightly oxidative overtones, are the key signatures. The blend is 81% Pinot Noir, 19% Chardonnay. Dosage is 5 grams per liter. Disgorged: August 2015.

Gimonnet's 2008 Brut Paradoxe, the only wine in the range based on Pinot Noir, is a bit gamy and wild in the glass. Even with its considerable textural beauty, the 2008 is forward and oxidative in style. I don't find the charm of the best Gimonnet wines here. The Pinots are sourced from Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, while the Chardonnays come from Mareuil and Cramant. Dosage is 6 grams/liter. Disgorged: April 2015.
