Modestly saturated pale red. Inviting, complex aromas of dark cherry, blueberry, blackberry and graphite minerality. At once rich and powerful; in a rather masculine style but without any hard edges. Finishes very long, with tannins nicely supported by the wine's mid-palate material. But this grand cru is still very young and in need of patience.

(from soil rich in marl): Healthy dark red. Aromas of black cherry, red licorice, menthol and mint are lifted by a floral topnote. Wonderfully sweet and tender for a young Corton grand cru but with enough juicy acidity to frame the black cherry and dark berry flavors. Not at all a monster of alcohol (this wine can reach high octane levels in hot vintages) but fine-grained, lively and long, finishing with firm, dusty tannins and mouthcoating, almost candied fruit.

The 2014 Corton le Rognet Grand Cru has a rather conservative bouquet with black cherries, briary, crushed rose petals developing so that is has a more Côte de Nuits-like aromatics profile. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, good backbone here so that it has a typical Corton-like foursquare structure, but the tannins are fine and there is precision and focus on the finish.
