A very dark nose. Fine but not pungent. Very concentrated but streamlined with no hard edges. Finishes a little dry but nice for not being forced.

The 2011 Talbot has a light and fragrant bouquet with red berry fruit, bell pepper and earthy notes, a touch of sage emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a satisfying succulent on the entry, quite fleshy for a Saint-Julien in this vintage, not complexity but judiciously spiced and lively on the finish. For me, this Talbot overperforms in context of the growing season. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. Attractive blend of ripeness and savour on the nose. A tiny bit timid and lacking in ambition but the balance is good. Respectable. Already drinking well. (JR)

They make around 40,000 cases of this wine. Inky crimson. Coffee-bean and cassis aromas. Papery tannins and rather flat in the middle. Just enough freshness. Cool but flat finish. (JH)

Quality has not necessarily always lived up to this property’s Fourth Growth status, however there have been significant improvements in recent years, with a sustainable focus in the vineyard, and new winery and cellar.
