Potensac is always a reliable buy – brilliant-value Claret from the Las Cases team that you’ll be happy to pull out at any occasion. In 2022, however, it reaches a new level. This is pinpoint, dark and pure with classical graphite and cassis. The palate is laden with lush fruit and fine tannins, yet it’s mouth-wateringly fresh. A wine that punches well above its Médoc status. Blend: 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36.5% Merlot, 19.5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot

The 2022 Potensac was tasted twice, the first showing some TCA. Blackberry, briar and light tobacco notes come through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, good grip, though it tapers towards the finish, which feels a bit flat. Perplexing. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

One of the sleepers of the vintage is the 2022 Potensac, a dense, concentrated wine redolent of crème de cassis, cigar wrapper and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, layered and youthfully structured, this will reward a bit of patience.

The 2022 Château Potensac is darker and more concentrated, featuring currants, spring flowers, and graphite. Medium to full-bodied, with layered depth, balanced structure, and beautiful tannins, it’s a serious, structured Potensac that should evolve well for 15-20+ years.
