The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has strong, almost overpowering scents, like walking into grandma's flat when she's just filled up dishes of potpourri and dabbed on a bit of lavender perfumed. It rather overwhelms the terroir. The palate is medium-bodied and feels rather saccharine, with brown sugar notes filtering through the fruit. It feels like it might pall after too little quantity. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Brooding aromas of blackberries, vine smoke, loamy soil, rich spices and incense introduce the 2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées, a full-bodied, ample and enveloping wine that's fleshy and gourmand, with a broad attack that segues into a concentrated, lively mid-palate and a long, saline finish.
