Score 91/100 · Drink 2019-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2019

Freeman's 2016 Chardonnay Ryo-fu is a pretty appellation-level Chardonnay. Light tropical overtones add nuance in a mid-weight, gracious Chardonnay that is already quite expressive. Apricot, tangerine, chamomile and lightly honeyed notes grace the exquisite finish. Vineyard sites are Charles Heintz, KR Ranch and Searby.

The 2016 Chardonnay Ryo-fu has compelling notes of baker's yeast, candied ginger, allspice and toasted almonds over a core of warm apricots, lemon pie and pink grapefruit. Medium-bodied with a great intensity of savory-laced stone fruit flavors, it has a lively line of acid and long, spicy finish. 806 cases produced.
