The 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru reveals the same seriousness it displayed in barrel. Unwinding in the glass with notes of cherries, dark berries, orange zest and petals, it's full-bodied, layered and enveloping, built around a chassis of sweet, powdery tannins and animated by lively acids. While this is generally the domaine's most immediate grand cru, the 2022 will nevertheless demand a bit of patience.

An ultra-fresh nose is also quite floral in character with its mix of cool red berries, earth and a suggestion of forest floor character. The caressing and unusually refined larger-bodied flavors despite displaying impressive power and muscle on the hugely long, firm and serious finale. The refinement is largely due to the dense but fine-grained tannins that should enable this to successfully age and improve over the next 15 to 20 years.
