A traditional, spice laden wine, the 1999 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Châteauneuf-du-Pape has deep, rich aromatics of earthy cassis and black cherries, leather, spice and smoke that lead into a medium to full bodied palate. It shows nice purity, quality fruit and a long finish. This seems to be drinking at point but should hold for a number of years.

A stunningly beautiful effort, the 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape offers a dense, saturated ruby color as well as a gorgeous nose of cedar, spice box, cherries, kirsch liqueur, and pepper. Expansive, full-bodied, lush, and seductive/sexy, this voluptuously-textured, long Chateauneuf reveals a seamlessness typical of the vintage's finest efforts. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. Bright medium ruby. Briary, slightly medicinal aromas of menthol and gingerbread. Rather rustic flavors of cooked dark berries; strong suggestion of stems. Old-styled Chateauneuf.
