Precise aromas of lemon, white pepper and minerals, plus a suggestion of musky reduction. Dense, fleshy and very concentrated, with strong minerality currently hiding underlying citrus fruits. But this very fine-grained Charmes shows a sexy creamy quality and seductive sucrosité to go with its terrific finesse and energy. Finishes fine-grained, brisk and very long, with the mineral structure to support extended aging. Matrot owns four parcels in Charmes but 75% of this bottling came from vines just beneath Perrières as his vineyards on the mid- and lower slope were wiped out by the late-June hail.

Delicate note of struck match. The same on the palate but also a little creamy. Direct and piercing fresh fruit, good length and very pure. (JH)
(Matrot owns four different parcels; just 10% of the blend comes from the bottom section of the vineyard; no new oak): Strongly mineral nose shows a smoked-meat reduction. Sweet, ripe and fine-grained. Not yet complex but silky in texture and concentrated, with bright minerality carrying through to a firm, very fresh finish. A distinctly sensual Meursault but without any make-up from new barrels.
