(just three barrels produced, as the Mugnerets have recently replanted a portion of these vines): Very good red-ruby color. Alluring aromas of black cherry, dark berries, violet and bitter chocolate are distinctly Vosne-like. Juicy and firm in the mouth, boasting good energy and sappy concentration for this bottling, which weighs in at just over 13% alcohol without any chaptalization. A rather serious style of Bourgogne, with a touch of torrefaction and a fine dusting of tannins.

There is just a small production of 2016 Bourgogne Rouge, not because of the frost but mainly because the vines are now very old, and a small plot was pulled out in 2015. Quantity is around 60% down—just three barrels. It has a clean and pure bouquet with dark cherries, griottes and a touch of crushed violet, all very sensual. The palate is medium-bodied with soft and supple tannin, very pure with a discrete chalky texture on the finish that has just a hint of sour cherry. Fine.
