Score 90/100 · Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2005

Deep, spicy and earthy with background hints of mocha and coffee that are followed by robust, intense and firm full-bodied, indeed powerful flavors and possess excellent length if not the elegance and purity of the best in this flight. Still, those who like muscle in their RSV will find it here.

The dark ruby-colored 1999 Romanee-St.-Vivant displays raspberry, cherry, and blackberry aromas intermingled with freshly cut flowers. Medium to full-bodied and extremely spicy, this wine is packed with blackberries and black cherries. It is refined yet firm and highly structured. Its oak-laden finish reveals some alcoholic warmth. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2010. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083.
