Score 91/100 · Robert Parker, Jan 1997

The 1991, aged in both small oak casks (about 30% new) and foudres, and bottled unfiltered, represents the elegant "Musigny" style that Cote Rotie can sometimes achieve. It boasts a fragrant, intense bouquet of violets, cassis, cedar, herbs, and smoked duck. An exceptionally soft, velvety-textured Cote Rotie, it may lack the 1990's power and extract, but it more than compensates for that deficiency with its finesse and perfume. I do not mean to imply this is a light-bodied wine lacking depth. It is a rich, complex, complete wine that is drinking beautifully, yet it promises to age gracefully for a decade. This is Cote Rotie at its most seductive. Last tasted 12/96.
