Score 90-92/100 · Drink 2004-2010, Pierre Rovani, Aug 1998

Given Jadot's track record with Chambertin (the 1990, tasted recently, is stupendous), I found this wine to be tight and reserved. Dark ruby-colored and offering a delightful nose of roses, perfume, and chocolate-covered cherries, it is a silky-textured, rich, lively, and wonderfully dense wine jam-packed with deeply ripe red and black fruits as well as hints of underbrush. What I tasted was certainly an outstanding wine, and my instincts and experience suggest there is more to it. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2010+. Importer: Kobrand, Inc., New York, NY; (212) 490-9300.

Rather delicate aromas of crystallized berries, smoke and sandalwood. Velvety and very sweet in the mouth, with pungent oak spice and a firm mineral underpinning. Ripe acids are in harmony with the wine. Great concentration. No hard edges.
