The 2007 Barolo Arione is a huge, powerful wine. This is a virile, potent style, but the vintage seems to have given the wine an extra measure of fruit and polish that has been missing in some previous years. Iron, smoke, tar and dark red fruit are just some of the notes that wrap around the muscular, insistent finish. This is an impressive showing from Gigi Rosso.

Unfortunately I was only able to taste one wine from Gigi Rosso. The 2007 Barolo Arione is a huge, powerful wine. Serralunga d'Alba. Deep ruby with orange tinge. Brooding, sweet cherry jam. Intense cherry palate with tannic impact on the finish. Good contrast, though, as well as length. (WS)
