Score 91/100 · Drink 2024-2034, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Jun 2024

Nuanced aromatics, lightly spiced, cumin, rosemary, freshly cut grass, a little soft on the finish, less powerful grip than the 2000, but a reminder that even in more challenging vintages there is often something to enjoy in Sociando, helping its reputation for consistency. 90ha in production, harvest September 29 to October 22, destemmed, native yeasts, malo in vat with no added bacteria, unfined with light filtration, 100% new oak 12 months, plus 6 months in barrel.

Scented and leafy. Angular and a bit gawky but at least it's not tarty! (JR)

Very dark. Now this is not forced. It's gentle expression of the property with just a bit more concentration than the regular bottling – in fact the two wines seem much more similar than in most vintages. Lightly tart but not aggressively so. (JR)

Lively but a bit febrile. Not solid. More like a new world Cab than a Bordeaux. And very tough tannins on the finish. (JR)
