The 1998 Coutet is pale to medium gold in color with intense notes of lemon zest, crystallized citrus fruits, dried apricots and lanolin plus touches of orange blossoms and creme brulee. The palate is wonderfully refreshing with zippy acid lifting the rich, decadent fruit, finishing on a compelling savory note.

Deep gold. Deep and tangy and ginger flavoured. Barley sugar on the palate but somehow flat and disappointing after the promise of the nose. Shame because it is not expensive at all – worth a punt. (JH)

Delicate and fresh, with lemon, flower, sweet apple and cream on the nose and palate. Medium-to-full body, with medium sweetness and a minerally, lemony aftertaste. Drink now. 4,165 cases made. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2008.
