Score 16.5/20 · Drink 1985-2010, Jancis Robinson MW, Aug 2017

Jéroboam. Fading ruby. Seemed a little thin after the two luscious 1988s (Certan de May and Roc de Cambes) served alongside. Definitely on the slide but very good for those celebrating a half-century in 2017 and unable to get their hands on an Yquem. (JR)

A surprisingly good wine for the vintage, Montrose was at its best between 1975 and 1979. Now in decline as the fruit recedes, and the dusty tannins and oak become more dominant, this medium ruby-colored wine still has good body and enough interest in the bouquet to hold many people's attention. Drink up. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 10/81.
