The 2013 Sommerhalde Spätburgunder GG is a classic that opens with a clear, refined, fresh and elegant but also intense and finely aromatic bouquet of red berries. Silky, fresh and enormously savory on the palate, this is a full-bodied and dense yet pure, saline, positively grippy and aromatic Pinot with a good, intense and well-concentrated finish. This is a very good, tight and sustainable 10-year-old Pinot Noir. This was also Bernhard's last vintage, during which he tasted the berries six times before he decided they were ready to be picked, as Julian reports. It's a highly respectable Pinot and heritage. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in late October and early November 2023.

The Sommerhalde charms with a seductive perfume of exotic spices, orchard blossom and fine cigar smoke. On the palate things get a little more intense with lashings of fleshy plums and juicy morello cherries making the early running, only to be reined in by flavours of dark chocolate, dust from the grindstone, roasted hazelnuts and a subtle mix of herbs and spices. Still youthful, but already very elegant. (MS)
