Score 88/100 · Drink 2019-2028, Neal Martin, Mar 2019

The 1997 Suduiraut has an attractive bouquet with orange pith, yellow flower and slightly earthy aromas. It is missing a little energy after 21 years. The palate is well balanced with a touch of dryness on the back palate. There is decent weight here but it almost stumbles across the finish line with an oxidative element that I have observed on previous bottles. 110gm/L residual sugar. Tasted at the Suduiraut vertical at the château.

Greenish pale gold. That note of creamy almonds reminiscent of the 2001 again. A little introvert on the nose. Slightly burnt note – almost singed orange peel. A bit brutal. Without the marvellous length of the 2001s. (JR)

Mid-gold. Denser style than Tour Blanche. Floral, very youthful, marked acidity. This non-flashy wine is very tucked- in at the moment but convinces with its concentration of potential. (JR)
