Score 87/100 · Drink 2003-2007, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2003

The spice-scented 2001 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne pops on the palate with zesty lemon flavors. Light-bodied, focused, and crystalline, it is a refreshing, vivacious wine with a long, expressive finish. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel. (this has finished its malolactic fermentation) Floral, minerally nose. Lively and light on its feet, with lovely minerally acids framing and freshening the chalky flavors. Offers noteworthy delicacy for a 2001. This wine has a solid 4 grams per liter of acidity, notes Boudot, whereas most of his other cuvees are in the 3.7 to 3.9 range. Finishes with good persistence.
