The 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico shows a tapered and traditional side with dark fruit, dried plum, grilled herb, dark licorice and tarry tones of smoke or road paving. The wine is bold and powerful for sure (with a determined 16.5% alcohol content) followed by a mouthfeel that actually feels more streamlined in this vintage. This production of 18,000 bottles is a blend of 65% Corvina, 30% Rondinella and 5% other indigenous grapes planted on limestone soils.

The 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is incredibly pretty and airy, enticing with senses, with crushed black cherries complemented by stone dust and dried flowers. This is velvety-smooth and seamless, with notes of mocha and autumnal spices giving way to tart red berries and balsam herbs toward the close. There’s a pretty inner sweetness here as well, perfectly balanced by brisk acids. It finishes long and staining, lightly structured and with a subtle tinge of alcoholic warmth (16.5%), yet the balance is spot on.
