The 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Ruchottes 1er Cru from Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet has a menthol-tinged bouquet, fine definition even if it is over-shadowed by the accompanying Bâtard-Montrachet. The palate offers sour lemon, hints of white peach and yet it misses some tension on the finish, like a schoolkid losing interest in the lesson. I must admit that I was expecting more from this.

The 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes is superb, wafting from the glass with aromas of Anjou pear, iodine, tangerine oil and wet stones, subtly framed by a delicate touch of new wood. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with excellent concentration, incisive acids and a long, precise finish. This is more old-fashioned than the 2014 rendition, and if that wine resembles the domaine's 2010, this has more affinities with the 2008.
Pale, bright yellow-green. Aromas of lemon, lime, fresh apple and crushed rock. A step up in generosity of texture--and perhaps concentration as well--from the Caillerets, with its citrus and stone flavors complicated by an element of wild herbs. Broad and dense but uncompromisingly dry, this youthfully unevolved wine finishes with a faint edge of grapefruit skin bitterness.
