Tremblay's 2017 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru is showing very well from bottle, unwinding from the glass with aromas of raspberries, cassis, spices, smoked meats, rich soil tones and bergamot. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, velvety and fleshy, with a textural attack, ripe acids and melting tannins. Long and perfumed, this is a gourmand, succulent Echézeaux that will offer a broad drinking window.

The 2017 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru has a luxurious bouquet of copious red cherry, crushed strawberry, orange zest and tangerine. The palate is medium-bodied with sumptuous red fruit, the richness offset by a fine bead of acidity. A little exotic but not ostentatious, revealing a tang of white pepper toward the persistent finish. Superb.

In barrel. 40% new oak and very little whole-bunch. Light to mid cherry red. Intimately pretty with red fruit and a hint of orange. Rose-hip tang and just a touch of oak sweetness. A little more oaky on the palate, less richness than in the Vosne Rouges du Dessus but more precise, defined, dry tannins. Texture as much as aroma, lively nose and currently subdued but promising palate. Very long. (JH)
