Score 92-94/100 · Drink 2026-2048, Neal Martin, Dec 2021

The 2020 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a focused, delineated bouquet that is perhaps a little sharper than the Bienvenue. Certainly the palate has more tension and minerality, a fine bead of acidity, quite precocious towards the finish with a hint of liquorice. Maybe a little more persistency would not have gone amiss, although it should gain some during its barrel maturation.

Glowing primrose. Immediately a nose of majesty, more demonstrative than the Bienvenues, a substantial block of pure deep white fruit, significantly more weight and power in a chiselled white block. It really depends on what you want between these two. Time is needed to be sure that the power of the Btard will deliver a wine to equal the grace of the Bienvenues. Tasted: October 2021
