Score 92-94/100 · Pierre Rovani, Jun 2004

The 2002 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Vaucrains bursts from the glass with immensely spicy aromas of plummy blackberries and cherries. Intense, inky, and focused, its medium to full-bodied personality is somewhat backward yet hugely deep, ripe, and concentrated. Licorice, black cherries, tar, and hyper-ripe blackberries are found throughout its lengthy personality. Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel. (510) 524-1524

Bright red-ruby. Extremely tight nose dominated by sweet oak and a note of chocolate. Rich, sweet and full but youthfully reticent. A very rich, complete Nuits wine with rather powerful flavors of cassis and chocolate and substantial tannins. This will call for seven or eight years of cellaring.
