Score 91-93/100 · Drink 2005-2012, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2001

The violet and blueberry-scented, medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Musigny has a medium to full-bodied personality. It bursts from the glass with massive waves of raspberries, plums, hints of fig, and licorice. This is an opulent, sweet, lush, and softly textured wine that is super-ripe. Its firm, tannic backbone is encased in loads of sur-maturite fruit. Drink it between 2005 and 2012. Importer: William Deutsch and Sons, White Plains, NY; tel. (914) 251-9463.

Medium red. Aromas of plum, underbrush, game and smoky oak. Fleshy flavors of plum, bitter cherry, clove and mace, along with a faint green streak suggesting vigorous extraction. Seems a bit advanced for '99 Musigny. Finishes with fine but slightly dry-edged tannins.
