51% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot. Opulent and showy with rich fruit on the nose and fully ripe fruit. This is nevertheless highly structured – possibly thanks to the notable Petit Verdot content this year - with lots of chewy tannin on the palate. Freshness and lift on the finish. FINE+RARE

The 2012 Alter Ego de Palmer has a wonderful bouquet with a real spring in its step: blackberry, raspberry, rose petals and bergamot, clean and precise. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, well judged acidity, very smooth and cohesive with impressive depth combined with finesse on the finish. Sophisticated and refined, this comes highly recommended. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting.

Tasted blind. Deep crimson. Some mintiness and – at last! – character on the nose. Brawny, burly tannins but there is good fruit concentration too. (JR)
