The 2017 Meursault Clos des École comes from a 0.5-hectare parcel previously farmed by Coche-Dury, acquired with the backing of an investor. The fragrant bouquet offers light passion fruit, dried honey and light grilled walnut aromas, and the palate is well balanced with a fine thread of acidity and just a bit of CO2. Quite citric in style, not overly complex, but there’s a pleasant prickle of ginger on the finish. A very decent debut.

Offering up aromas of smoky citrus, green orchard fruit and oatmeal, the 2017 Meursault Clos des Ecoles is medium-bodied, satiny and pure, with succulent acids, a generous but vibrant core of fruit and a nicely delineated finish. Ten barrels were produced, of which two were new.

Founded in 1962 by Alain Hudelot and based in Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat is today run by Alain’s grandson Charles van Canneyt and has become one of the region’s most respected estates.
