(16.5% alcohol) Dark red. Exotic dried berries, pepper and spice cake on the nose. Fat, sweet and lush but with very good vinosity thanks to harmonious acidity. A huge wine with a strong chocolatey character and some obvious alcoholic warmth. This is likely to give greatest pleasure over the short term.

From Lodi, the deep plum/ruby-hued 2003 Zinfandel Dogtown Vineyard offers a huge nose of earth, roasted herbs, sweet pomegranates, cherries, briery mountain fruit, and a peppery, alcoholic finish. This 700-case cuvee (16.5% alcohol) should drink well for 4-5 years. (Release date 11/05) Tel. (707) 963-0940; Fax (707) 963-8683
