Score 94/100 · Drink 2013-2022, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Apr 2010

The 2007 Corullon Moncerbal was aged in 100% new French oak. It is dark ruby-colored with an already complex aromatic array of pain grille, pencil lead, Asian spices, incense, and assorted black fruits. Velvety-textured, suave, and intensely flavored, it admirably combines elegance and power. The finish lasts for 40-seconds. Give it 3-4 years of additional cellaring and drink it from 2013 to 2022. Descendientes de Jose Palacios was founded in 1998 by Alvaro Palacios. It has steep hillside vineyards ranging in age from 60-100 years planted to 100% Mencia, the indigenous grape of cool-climate Bierzo. The vineyards are biodynamically farmed and the wines are bottled without fining or filtration. Importer: The Rare Wine Company, Sonoma, CA; tel. (707) 996-4484

Bright ruby-red. Drop-dead gorgeous aromas of raspberry, cherry, blood orange, potpourri and minerals; smells like a great wine from Chambolle-Musigny. Lively red fruit flavors are complicated by notes of rose pastille and Asian spices, with firm mineral spine and a late note of orange zest providing added verve. The finish repeats the raspberry and mineral notes and clings with superb spicy clarity. As complex and delicious as this wine already is, I'd hold mine for at least another three or four years.
