Score 94/100 · Drink 2022-2030, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Jul 2022

The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard, blended with 15% Petit Verdot, has a deep garnet color and a core of dried red and black cherries with alluring layers of maturity: olive, tobacco, forest floor, mushrooms and incense. The medium-bodied palate is resolved and rounded at this stage with savory, umami accents and a long, ethereal finish. It will continue to hold in bottle over the next 5-7 years.

Very deep crimson. Sweet and rather menthol. Rich and cough medicine, not quite as fresh as the 2011. Bur certainly refreshing and not too heavy. Quite a chewy end. (JR)

Bright, dark red. Superripe, slightly floral aromas of raspberry, dark chocolate, tobacco and minerals; as much red as black in its fruit character. Intensely flavored and penetrating, conveying a sexy saline quality to its seriously backward flavors of black cherry, iron and tobacco. Finishes with serious, firm tannins and superb length. This firmly structured, beautifully integrated wine is still on an upslope.

At ten years of age, David Ramey's 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard is in a beautiful spot right now. The tannins have softened, yet there is plenty of power and intensity in the glass. Tobacco, cedar, smoke, dark spice, orange peel and a hint of white truffle give the 2005 a sense of exoticism that is impossible to miss. I imagine the 2005 will offer superb drinking for at least another decade, perhaps more.
