The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru is more backward on the nose than Rossignol-Trapet’s Chambertin tasting blind alongside, the fruit is high-toned and darker, whilst the oak is a little more prominent. It loses a bit of finesse and complexity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, lightly spiced, quite muscular in style with a flattering finish. Yet, it lacks the effortlessness of the finest Chambertins in this vintage and there is just a slight sour aftertaste. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

Mid cherry red. By far the most inviting of the Camille Giroud wines. Ripe dark-red fruit but no overripeness. On the palate it is on the edge, but just fresh enough. Firm, chewy with decent fruit density. Just a bit flat on the finish. Should age longer than the Charmes-Chambertin. (JH)

The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru is blended with 50% whole cluster and 30% new oak. It has quite a dense, powerful bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit mixed with loamy, peaty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, conveying more energy than the Charmes-Chambertin and good grip on the finish. Excellent.
