Medium red. Wild, musky aromas of redcurrant, earth and tobacco; smells like a Montecristo #2. At once dense and juicy, offering noteworthy intensity and a light touch to the sweet fruit and soil flavors. Finishes with broad, ripe tannins and a lingering note of cigar tobacco.

(from 45-year-old vines): Bright, dark red. Very ripe aromas of cherry pit and almond. Dense, ripe and sweet but youthfully restrained, with excellent depth to its lightly saline redcurrant flavor. Finishes with very suave tannins, excellent grip and resounding length.

Blackish crimson. Aromatic and lively. Some lift here. Very slightly austere and chunky but there is life too.  Patrick Landanger seems to have acquired some excellent vineyards around Chambolle – the Dom Moine Hudelot, in 2008. (JR)
