Derived from an optimally situated enclave within Les Enceignères, the Bachelet brothers' 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Aubues is showing beautifully, mingling notes of citrus zest and white flowers with hints of green apple, pastry cream and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with fine depth at the core and a long, tangy finish, this has turned out very well.

The 2018 Puligny-Montachet Les Aubues has a lifted bouquet with scents of yellow flowers, sprigs of fresh mint and limestone. The palate is well balanced with a slightly menthol tinged opening, quite honeyed in texture with sour lemon, orange rind and nutty notes on the attractive finish. This should drink well for 12-14 years.

Fine, sleek and smoky. Good and mouth-filling. A very satisfying wine, even if not a long-distance runner. Very flattering and easy. (JR)

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Aubues, which is a lieu-dit in the center of Enseignères, is perhaps missing the presence of some of the domaine’s other 2018s this year. The palate is better: well balanced with light honeyed notes on the entry, quite clean and pure, though lacking the mineral drive that you would find in a Premier Cru.
