Score 87/100 · Drink 1998-2002, Robert Parker, Feb 1998

Peter Lehmann has once again produced fine wines at realistic prices. The 1995 Shiraz offers up a smoky, peppery, blackberry-scented nose with less new oak than its sibling, the 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine possesses excellent ripeness, a one-dimensional, sweet, jammy mid-palate, good length, and no hard edges. It should drink well for 3-4 years. Importers: Franklin Selections, Annapolis Junction, MD; tel. (410) 880-4790, and Appalachian Imports, LLC, Annapolis Junction, MD.

Deep, bright ruby-red. Aromas of currant, bourbon, dark chocolate, coffee, tree bark and dill. Then lush and sweet in the mouth, with impressive fat and richness. A layered, concentrated wine, with chewy, ripe tannins and a flavor of chocolate mint on the end.
