Bright violet. Ripe dark berries, candied flowers and incense on the highly perfumed, mineral- and smoke-accented nose. Supple and sweet in the mouth, offering palate-staining blackberry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors and a spicy touch of white pepper. Finishes impressively long, spicy and floral, leaving an intensely sweet blue fruit note behind.

From a terrific site located in the northern part of the appellation, located just under the Grandes Places lieu-dit, the 2012 Cote Rotie Vialliere comes from 30-year-old vines (Ogier purchased the parcel in 2012) and was brought up in a combination of new and used barrels. This beauty has killer nose of crème de cassis, ozone, spring flowers and caramelized meats. This gives way to a full-bodied, concentrated and powerful Cote Rotie that always stays elegant, seamless and silky on the palate. Possessing a rare mix of power and finesse, it needs short term cellaring but will have two or more decades of overall longevity.
