Score 91/100 · Drink 2015-2030, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Apr 2015

Tasted at the Denis Bachelet dinner at Quality Chop House. The Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 1999 from Dominique Laurent has a rich, ripe, mulberry and briary-scented bouquet that displays commendable intensity. Typical of Laurent's style, it is rounded and sensual, quite plush in the mouth. It is slightly lower in acidity vis-à-vis the Charmes-Chambertin from Denis Bachelet and misses some precision on the finish, but the length on this suave Grand Cru should be appreciated.

Ruby-red. Profound aromas of black cherry, dark chocolate and violet. Superripe and thick in the mouth, with sauvage flavors of black fruits, mocha, iron and game. Velvety and seamless. Finishes with ripe, oak-enhanced tannins and a note of dark chocolate.
