(from 85- and 70-year-old vines): Bright red. Aromas of redcurrant and sweet vanillin oak. Lovely intensity and sucrosite to the intense red berry and mineral flavors, with spicy oak currently in the foreground. Finishes with chewy, ripe tannins and very good grip and length.

Resonant and totally voluptuous on the palate, the 2012 Chambolle-Musigny Les Clos de l’Orme is a real head-turner. All the elements are beautifully put together in a deep, fleshy Chambolle that shows the darkness and richness that is so typical of the year. Hints of spices, new leather and French oak linger on the close. Today the oak is a bit prominent, but that should not be an issue once the wine enters the early part of its drinking window.

Two-thirds new oak. Lots of fruity charm and a deep colour. Generous, sweet and spicy – quite forward. (JR)
