Score 92/100 · Drink 2015-2025, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sep 2014

The 2010 Barolo Vigna S. Caterina emerges from the parcel in Lazzarito where the winery is located. Here the slightly higher elevation and southwest exposure result in a Barolo that is more aromatically lifted and red-toned vis-à-vis the Lazzairasco. Mint, pine, sweet red cherries and orange peel lifted from the glass, supported by firm yet nicely balanced tannins that give the wine its shape. This, too, is a fairly open 2010 that should drink well with only minimal cellaring, within the context of the year. As always, this is the most feminine of the Porro Barolos.

Serralunga d’Alba. From the Lazzarito vineyard. Concentrated ruby with orange rim. At first a whiff of sweet oak and leather amalgamating in sweet fruit and black tea leaves. Ripe fruit with tangy acidity and lots of powdery dusty tannins on the finish. Still a little bit one-dimensional and needs much more time in the bottle. (WS)

Serralunga d’Alba. Limestone and 30-year-old vines. Mid blackish crimson. Round and rich though a bit heavier than some. Ticks boxes rather than excites. (JR)
