Score 88/100 · Drink 2013-2014, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2012

The 2010 Le Difese shows most of its charms up-front. An initial burst of sweet red cherries tapers off rather quickly in this fragrant, floral entry-level red from Tenuta San Guido. Le Difese is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese.

Anticipated maturity: 2012-2014. If the entry-level wines are any indication, vintage 2010 wasn’t easy at Tenuta San Guido. Among the more affordable wines, readers should focus on vintages 2006-2009, which are more consistent. It will be interesting to see where the 2010 Sassicaia comes out next year. In the meantime, the 2009 Sassicaia is compelling. Importer: Kobrand Corp., Purchase, NY; tel. (914) 253-7756
