Score 92/100 · Drink 2025-2040, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, May 2022

Marked by scents of bay leaf, humus, mocha and cassis, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard comes across as less smooth and polished than the 2018, with a similar medium to full-bodied feel on the palate but with slightly coarser tannins and a long, softly dusty finish.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard is a heroic, explosive wine that captures all the best qualities this Moon Mountain site has to offer. That's the good news. The bad news is that there are just 1,500 bottles to go around. Iron, smoke, incense, wild cherry, tobacco, licorice and wild cherry soar out of the glass. The 2019 is a total knock-out. don't miss it.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard is so fascinating to taste next to the other 2019s in the range. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry, mint and spice give the 2019 striking aromatic nuance to match its mid-weight personality. The Montecillo is especially airy in this vintage, at least in the early going. It will be interesting to see if it gains more volume in aging.
