The 2017 Corton Grand Cru is a mix of vines from the Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix side of the vineyard. It has a very pure bouquet of red cherries, boysenberry, rose petal and faint rooibos tea aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins, rounded and velvety, yet missing a little backbone and nerve on the finish. Is this Grand Cru just trying to seduce me on the day, without caring for longevity? We’ll see.

Frosted in 2016. 20% new oak. Barrel sample. Mid crimson. Beautifully scented with peppery red fruit and a light floral note. Sour and tangy too, lifting it out of the glass. Mouth-wateringly fresh and silky, scented from start to finish and with perfect harmony of fruit and structure. No need to wait too long but this will certainly age gracefully. (JH)
