2001 Elio Altare - Langhe Vigna Larigi

The 2001 Larigi is another modern-day 1989. A vibrant, powerful wine, the 2001 reveals stunning depth, clarity and precision in its layers of perfumed fruit. Simply put, it is a profound Larigi. The 2003 harvest was the hottest on record in 50 years.

The 2001 Larigi, pure plum fruit with superior ripeness and sweetness, is spicy and ample on the palate, very round, caressing in texture, and warm on the finish. Drink: 2005-2010. (all barbera) Full red-ruby. Bright aromas of roasted dark berries, violet, licorice and nutty oak. Very rich, sweet and dense, with lovely depth of texture. Brilliantly precise flavors of minerals, violet, licorice and graphite, with minty and floral elements emerging as the wine opened in the glass. Juicy and still rather unevolved. Finishes very long and firm, with rather sweet tannins.
