Dark red. Medicinal black cherry, menthol and licorice on the nose. Smooth and juicy, with tight, slightly herbal flavors of cassis, licorice and mint. Nicely ripe in spite of its medicinal aspect, and sweet and fine-grained for this wine. Finishes with supple tannins.

One of the better Clarkes ever made, this wine from the cool, backwater appellation of Listrac displays serious density, an opaque ruby/purple color, and lots of earth, black currants and raspberries. Drink it over the next 10-12 years.

Slightly peppery fruit and fragrant mid palate. Firm tannins but still pretty well balanced and showed well after a run of right-bank richness. (JH)
