Medium red, not too bright. Lively aromas of raspberry, tart cherry, pomegranate and bitter chocolate, with topnotes of herbs, pepper and ginger. Incisive, minerally and dry, even a bit lean, showing very good peppery/herbal lift to the tart red berry flavors. Finishes with slightly edgy tannins and good length.

The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Plantes has a crisp and quite floral bouquet, hints of rose petal informing the bright red cherry and strawberry fruit. Good mineral tones here. The palate is fresh and crisp, full of energy and lucidity with a keen thread of acidity and a citric-fresh, tart cherry finish that just enlivens the mouth. This is not complex, but it more than makes up for that with its pure charm and poise.

A more deeply pitched nose is spicier still with its markedly earthy red currant, plum and violet-scented aromas. There is both good punch and detail to the slightly bigger and more powerful yet still attractively elegant flavors that, like many of the wines in the range, tighten up substantially on the dusty finish where once again a hint of bitter cherry surfaces.
