The 2016 Quinault l'Enclos has a high-toned bouquet with black cherry and sloes, a touch more VA here compared to Branon. The palate is rounded and plush on the entry, quite savoury and Rhône-like, with a possibility of some brettanomyces towards the finish. Just a bit feral compared with its peers. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

The 2016 Quinault l’Enclos was perhaps showing a little brettanomyces on a nose of red fruit infused with saddle leather and game, although I never detected this on previous examples and it still has plenty of charm. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, rather chewy in texture and missing a little finesse on the finish compared to its peers. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Pierre-Olivier Clouet of Cheval lives here. Tasted blind. Looks rather pale and dull. Just a little grubby on the nose. Solid but a bit dry. Hint of mint on the end. (JR)
