Serralunga d’Alba. Deep, balsamic, minty cherry fruit with notes of garden herbs and salty, minerally hints. With aeration the fruit comes more and more to the fore and regains its youthfulness. Beautiful, firm, gravelly tannins over pure cherry fruit. The succulent acidity turns up only on the finish. Astonishingly, it closes up again so there is still much more to come. (WS)

The 2009 Barolo Otin Fiorin Piè Rupestris - Nebioli is a fabulous start to this evening, as it is in such a beautiful spot right now. Open-knit and sensual, the 2009 envelops the palate with rich, pliant fruit, all wrapped into a silky, mid-weight frame. I have never been crazy about the 2009 Barolos, but there is no question the wines are drinking very well at the moment. What a gorgeous Barolo.

Cappellano

Serralunga d’Alba’s Cappellano is one of Barolo’s most legendary producers, producing ultra-traditional styles of Nebbiolo. Made famous by Teobaldo and now in the hands of his son Augusto, the estate is best known for its Barolo Piè Franco, a wine from ungrafted vines in the Gabutti Cru.
