Score 91-93/100 · Drink 2003-2010, Robert Parker, Aug 2002

The 2001 Chardonnay Belle Cote exhibits exotic tropical fruit notes, a layered, opulent texture, medium to full body, less minerality than La Carriere, beautiful layers of fruit, and a stunning finish. This brilliant effort should drink well for 5-7 years. (Release date 4/03) Tel. (707) 942-4459; Fax (707) 942-0209

Rather exotic aromas of ripe peach and apricot, Bartlett pear, rose petal, lichee, white pepper and minerals; a bit reminiscent of Alsace gewurztraminer. Sweet, thick, almost oily, with deep, thoroughly ripe fruit flavors of peach and apricot. Superconcentrated for this bottling, but as large-scaled as it is, it still retains a degree of elegance. Very long on the finish. A rather Meursault-like wine that may well go in a petrolly direction as it ages in bottle.
