The nose on the 2004 Mitolo Shiraz Reiver has massive levels of dark earthy fruit, blackberries, graphite and subtle dark chocolate aromas and there's not a hint of heat. The palate is full bodied and shows fantastic richness, purity and precision and while it's ripe and lush, nothing is out of balance and there's nice length to the finish. Absolutely fantastic.

Named after the (English/Scottish) Border Rievers (from whom I am doubtless descended). Scented, relatively tight and dense. Liquorice – certainly not flabby or sweet. Very muscular for the moment, this still needs quite a lot of time. See below for what it might become. . Glaetzer’s aim is to maximise the difference between the open sweetness of the McLaren Vale wines and the earthier, truffle characters of the Barossa.
